Frequently asked questions
GCDA is a not-for-profit organisation with over forty years' experience creating community hubs in southeast London, shaping each project around local needs. Having worked in Lewisham for the last fifteen years, GCDA is thrilled to have found a permanent home in the heart of Catford - marking the start of an exciting new partnership with the Council.
GCDA believes that a pub should be an inclusive social space, a real home from home, where everyone is welcome. Whilst having a drink and a bite to eat with friends is an important way of creating community, there are other ways of doing that too. Once we’re fully up and running there will be a programme of community events and activities shaped by local people. The Catford House will also have rooms to hire that can host everything from casual social gatherings and private parties to food pop-ups, clubs, workshops, meetings, exhibitions and performances. There will be a range of rental prices to suit all budgets.
GCDA is a London Living Wage employer and is intent on investing in the community. The team employed at The Catford House are local people, many of whom have previously faced barriers to employment. In time (2026) we will have a fully equipped community kitchen at The Catford House which will support a range of food-based workshops and events.
Please do get in touch with your ideas. We’ve got a lot to get through initially, so please bear with us as we get settled in! Email: thecatfordhouse@gcda.org.uk

We know you're all eager for us to open as soon as possible. Well, we're pleased to say that the wait is nearly over! Here's a bit of background to read in the meantime.
The former Catford Constitutional Club was forced to close in August 2019 due to structural and safety issues. A contract for refurbishment of this much-loved council-owned asset was awarded in September 2022.
Restoring a heritage building of this scale and importance (it's one of the oldest buildings in Catford town centre) is a complex process, as anyone who’s had experience of building work will attest.
The now nearly complete transformation, which is supported by a £1.8 million contribution from the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund, has been led by Turner Works and Hayatsu architects, and marks a major milestone in Phase 1 of the Catford Town Centre Framework.
